Art (Year 11)

Course overview – Year 11

Unit 1: Portfolio of Work (Controlled assessment) 60%

Continuing on from Year 10, Year 11 Art and Design consists of completion of Unit 1 by
January/February. Students begin the year with a visit to Kew Gardens. Here, students collect visual
research in photographs, sketches and drawings focusing on the unique plants and flowers throughout
the Gardens. Back in the classroom, students begin the next part of their controlled assessment with a
focus on recording using a wide range of materials and techniques. Students then research artists of
their choice developing and experimenting with ideas towards a final outcome. Students complete a
mock exam before starting Unit 2.

Unit 2: Externally Set Task 40%

Students choose one starting point or project brief within the paper. From this, students develop their
own project focusing on the four assessment objectives. Students must continue to develop their skills
using a wide range of materials and techniques successfully demonstrating a variety of ideas reflecting
upon artist research and understanding. Students will then sit a 10 hour exam across 2 days completing
their final response.
Across the academic year we offer and encourage lunch time and after school sessions helping students
achieve their maximum potential within a safe and creative environment.
