New awards and Student roles in the Sports Department. The new roles are roles of responsibility for Students.
Students in year 9 are invited to apply for the Sports Prefect role as described in the role description.
Colours will be awarded to students representing St Michael’s in sporting teams throughout the school. The opportunity to represent St Michael’s in sporting fixtures is a privilege and will be rewarded as a such.
There are two tiers of colours:
The PE department will meet at the end of each term and look at the following criteria when awarding colours.
Half colours (Yellow):
Full colours (White):
You will be rewarded with the corresponding colour at the end of term assembly. The colour is in the form of a badge, with the sports name embroidered onto it. These badges are then sewn onto your blazer as recognition of the sport club that you represent at St Michael’s.
Each sports team at St Michaels will have a team captain. The captain will have a number of responsibilities within the department and as a member of the sporting team.
The PE department will sit down at the start of each term and decide the captains for each team that has fixtures that term. Captains will normally be in position for a minimum term of one year, dependent on performance and conduct at fixtures and in lessons. Captains will be picked for teams from year 8 onwards, with year 7 being a chance for you to show the PE team leadership skills that would make you a good choice for captain in future
The most important part of this role is about creating and maintaining a good spirit in the School. Below is a list of specific tasks and responsibilities that Sports Captains would be expected to carry out:

There will be 16 positions in total, 10 in year 10 and 6 in year 12 (usually 8 boys and 8 girls)
Letter of application should be sent to Miss Whitehead. As well as detailing both your academic and sporting achievements, your letter should also explain why you feel you would make a good Sports Captain at St Michael’s. Please also include a reference – a short statement made by an adult in support of your application. This referee can be any adult (but not your parents) who knows you either inside or outside school in a sporting capacity.
