Curriculum

At St Michael’s, we teach the Foundation Stage Curriculum for the Early Years (Nursery and Reception) and the National Curriculum for English, Maths, PE and Science for years 1 to 6.

In addition this also includes the following subjects: History, Computing, Geography, Art and Design Technology.

These subjects are taught through exciting topics that also develop personal skills which further develop and build Literacy and numeracy skills.

We also teach Religious Education (using the agreed syllabus for St Michael’s) and Personal and Social Health Education (PSHE). There is a whole school approach to PSHE using Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEALs). This provides a structure for assemblies.

Teachers plan together to ensure consistency of teaching and equal opportunities for all pupils. Connections are made between subjects to make learning more meaningful and interesting.

Projects, outings and events are planned to bring the curriculum to life. ICT is taught across the curriculum, as well as a discreet subject, to motivate the children and maximise their skills in this important subject.
