As a Catholic School we understand the importance of being a learning community that lives its life according to the teachings of Christ. Put in to practice it means that we take Jesus' injunction to love our neighbour seriously, we are called to 'serve and not to be served' and we strive for excellence so that we may be better able to contribute to the welfare of others and ourselves in the wider community. Living in the Light of the Gospel is the basis of the life and work of St Michael's.
Specialist Science College
St Michael's was granted Specialist status in Science in September 2008. As a result we have been able to refurbish all our Science labs as well as installing interactive white boards in Maths and now in all curriculum areas. Our Specialist status has enabled us to introduce a range of courses to enrich the educational experience of our students. We offer extra GCSE qualifications in Separate Sciences and students are able to take Mathematics early and at 6th form we offer Applied Science - Forensics. We work closely with our partner primary schools and our students are actively involved in this programme. We are currently working in Art, Mathematics and Technology and in addition staff are helping to provide enrichment activities at a local pupil referral unit and field studies centre.
Within a Christian environment we believe that all pupils should be encouraged to achieve the maximum according to their potential. Our annual awards evening celebrates effort, commitment and service, as well as achievement.
